The National Student Association for Medical Research (NSAMR) is currently seeking highly motivated UK medical students from all years to join the 2019-20 national committee.

This is a great opportunity to foster leadership and managerial skills and committee members will have a chance to become a trustee of a charity.

Funding is available to support travel for NSAMR related activities. 

NSAMR is a registered charity, completely student-led and funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Available Roles

Executive Commitee

Team managers and trustees of the charity.

Secretary
  • Support NSAMR’s Chair in ensuring the smooth functioning of the executive committee.
  • Administration and correspondence
    • First point of contact for all external queries
    • AGM organisation
  • Recruitment and management of the NSAMR Ambassadors programme throughout the year.
Research Lead
  • Lead and oversee Research Team
  • Set up collaborative projects including audits
  • Ensure smooth running of annual Taster Month program
Finance and Fundraising Lead
  • Responsible for planning NSAMR’s finances to ensure the smooth running of the organisation’s activities. 
  • Administrative tasks to secure funds for the academic year
  • Reimbursing expense claims from commitee members
  • Organising travel reimbursements for committee members
  • Organising finances for the AGM and fundraising for events where applicable.
Events Lead
  • Liaising with university academic societies
  • Production of events material
  • Onsite management during events
  • Developing webinars to hold national events online
Outreach Lead
  • Support and develop outreach programmes to provide direct support to secondary students by recruiting and liaising with medical student volunteers.
  • Develop a national scheme to connect secondary school students to current medical students. The scheme should provide education, opportunities or assistance to 6th form students who are interested in medicine, specifically targeting those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
IT Lead
  • Oversee IT team
  • Ensure smooth functioning of GDrive, Slack, NSAMR social media, and this WordPress site
  • Support other teams in their activities and campaigns

Subcommittees

Working under the supervision of the executive committee to carry out team projects and national schemes. Members will have advancement and promotion opportunities within the NSAMR organisation. 

Research Team
  • Research Collaborative Lead
    • Setting up potential collaborative projects such as research and audit studies with other scientific, medical and non-medical associations and societies.
    • The Research Collaborative Lead will ideally have past experience in setting up new projects or have ideas of potential collaborators who they can connect with.
  • Audit Lead / Coordinator
    • Roles include establishing national audits with collaborators in order to establish high quality national audits and research studies, as well as offering medical students opportunities to participate in these national projects.
  • Taster Month Lead / Coordinator
    • Roles include organising and expanding the NSAMR Taster Month Programme through active recruitment of research supervisors in the UK to become hosts.
    • Recruit junior year medical students onto the programme and match students to research groups in order for students to gain meaningful shadowing experience.
    • Collect feedback from students and supervisors to improve the programme and issue certificates to students at the end of the Taster Month programme.
Finance and Fundraising Team
  • Fundraising Coordinator
    • Roles include assisting with Finance Lead and developing new fundraising ideas, approach organisations for sponsorship and donations, and submit external grant applications.
Events Team
  • Events Coordinator
    • Collaborate with different societies and organisations to develop and coordinate academic events or workshops through webinar series. 
Outreach Team
  • Outreach Coordinator

Education Team
  • Education Coordinator 
    • Working with the Education Lead to coordinate and organise educational events and schemes developed by the education team, such as the NSAMR Research Education Conference. 
IT Team
  • Website Coordinator
    • Installation, testing, design, maintenance of this WordPress site and its backend hosting services
  • Graphic Designer
    • Work in collaboration with the different NSAMR teams to design campaigns for NSAMR national programmes and promotional materials such as pamphlets and logos.
    • Applicants are encouraged to submit their portfolio to showcase their artwork and designs.
